Heroin Rehab Programs:

Symptoms and Treatment

Tulasi Health Care’s heroin addiction treatment centres and marijuana addiction treatment centres in Delhi have been actively working on preventing the onslaught of heroin addiction and on keeping India free from heroin addiction. The Delhi NCR based heroin treatment center has been listed as one of the best heroin addiction treatment centres in India.

Amongst the 7.5 crore drug addicts in India, approximately 1 crore are heroin addicts. The drug is readily available across the country because of illicit cultivation of opium in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and many other states of the country, on a large scale. Moreover, it is also smuggled into India from our neighbouring countries like Afghanistan.

What is heroin?

Heroin, also known as diamorphine among other names, is an opioid most commonly used as a recreational drug for its euphoric effects. Medically, it is used in several countries to relieve pain or in opioid replacement therapy. Heroin is typically injected, usually into a vein: however, it can also be smoked, snorted or inhaled. The onset of effects is usually rapid and lasts for a few hours.

Common side effects include:  dry mouth, drowsiness, impaired mental function, constipation and addiction. Giving up the habit after long-term use, withdrawal symptoms can begin within hours of last usage.

When administered by injection into a vein, heroin has two to three times the effect as of a similar dose of morphine. It typically comes as a white or brown powder.

Symptoms of Addiction

  • Dry mouth and skin
  • Constricted pupils
  • Insomnia
  • Decreased breathing (if heroin is smoked)
  • Itching, vomiting and nausea
  • Mental function impairment
  • Poor performance
  • Regular injection of heroin can cause:
    • abscesses,
    • infected heart valves
    • blood borne infections and
    • pneumonia

Following are the risks associated with regular heroin usage:

  • An overdose of Heroin may prove fatal
  • Physical dependence due to frequent use
  • An overdose may also cause respiratory depression, shallow breathing, hypotension and coma
  • Administering heroin injections intravenously may cause HIV, hepatitis and toxic reactions owing to needles being contaminated
  • Collapsed veins and
  • Endocarditis (inflammation of the heart lining and valves)
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Bacterial infections
  • Organ damage (typically caused by additives in street heroin)

What you experience during heroin addiction treatment is going to solely depend on specific factors including how long you have been using and how much you have been using?

Your recovery will depend on your ability to understand and cope with other challenges, such as underlying psychological problems which may have been caused by (excessive) heroin usage.

There are two kinds of treatment centers: residential and outpatient.

Heroin is highly addictive to a point, where nearly one-quarter of people who use heroin develop a dependency.

Once addiction has developed, users will stop at nothing to get more of the drug even if it means risking their jobs, damaging relationships with loved ones and more.

However, treatment of heroin addiction is very much possible. Timely diagnosis of the addiction induced diseases and their treatment are beneficial.

Tulasi Healthcare delivers quality treatment by combining medication compliance programs and rehabilitation therapy for reversing and curing heroin addiction.

Our Delhi-based treatment centre is committed to providing support to the addicted individuals throughout the treatment via inpatient or outpatient care programs. For every patient, there is a customized plan of action, which is devised while taking into consideration their symptoms. Our treatment approach is holistic and includes medication, psychotherapy & support groups.

At the beginning of the rehabilitation program, medicines which help mitigate the heroin cravings are administered and later on, during the treatment, behavioural therapy is undertaken to curtail cravings naturally.

At our rehabilitation centres, we make patients engage in social activities. Yoga and meditation are also taught. We try to restore their lifestyles to normalcy and help them in every manner possible to keep addiction and related symptoms at bay. We provide support to family members too, which helps in expediting the recovery process. Also, we remain in touch with the patient after the treatment is over, in order to eliminate the possibility of a relapse.
