Dr. (Col.) Pavan Kumar Pardal
Senior Consultant PsychiatristDr. Colonel Pavan Kumar Pardal has been in psychiatry for about four decades – as a clinician, teacher, researcher and administrator. He served as Professor and Head of Psychiatry at SRMS, Bareilly, for nearly 19 years, contributing significantly to the department’s establishment and development.
His journey commenced in 1979, when he joined the Army Medical Corps after pursuing his MBBS at MLN Medical College, Allahabad. He earned his MD in Psychiatry from the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, in 1987. Over the years in uniform, he went on to lead some of the armed forces, most important psychiatric centres – experience that shaped both his clinical judgement and his approach to mentorship.
Along the way, he built deep, hands-on experience in OCD and addiction psychiatry, areas he’s continued to treat and teach with particular focus throughout his career.
Teaching has been just a central to his career is treating patients. As a post graduate teacher and examiner, he guided countless MD and DNB psychiatry students, while also shaping academic curriculum along the way. His research contributions of around 30 publications in national and international journals reflect a career spent staying curious and engaged with the field, not just practising within it.
He is a life fellow of the Indian Psychiatric Society and a life member of the Delhi Psychiatric Society – recognitions that speak to a career built on both depth of experience and consistent contribution to the profession.
